![]() ![]() N.B: Certain characters have been aged up to adapt to the nature and themes of this story. Not to forget to mention a good old-fashioned battle climax scene to rescue the heirs of Clan Dunbroch. ![]() Set on the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, my version of Brave will be much darker than the Disney animation: a depiction of Highlander culture riddled with history, politics, mystery, magic and mythology. She has to prove that her sex isn’t a disadvantage and that she’s just as capable as any man. ![]() Before they can follow her, she must earn their respect and that is easier said than done. Disney is working on a live-action version of its first animated classic, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.' Marc Webb ('The Amazing Spider-Man') directs the upcoming adaptation with 'West Side Story' star Rachel Zegler playing the iconic Disney princess. She’s a great archer and a young woman, but more importantly she’s a lady. Snow White is the original Disney princess. Each clan has some quarrel with another, and she must make them see past their grievances and do what needs to be done. When Merida’s younger brothers: Hamish (Tom Holland), Harris (Logan Lerman) and Hubert (Asa Butterfield) are kidnapped by English mercenaries, Merida must unite the the clans and bring the perpetrators to justice. She’s a sharp-shot archer but rebellious daughter of Queen Elinor (Michelle Fairley) and King Fergus (Brian Blessed). Sometimes, all you need is the story of a mother and daughter – and that’s what made this amazing for me.Set in Scotland during the 1740s, my interpretation of Brave features a young Scottish princess called Merida (Sophie Skelton). Yes, the story lacked in some aspects, such as a memorable villain, but at the end of the day, not every Disney movie can have a super iconic villain or crazy twists. They work together to build a new Scotland after, and their bond is no longer torn from when she was a child. It’s literally because of this love that her mother is turned back into a human, and that’s what makes this so beautiful. And at the end of the movie, the two have a newfound love that’s stronger than they had ever experienced through their hard times. To be brave enough to face a different viewpoint than their own and to grow as people and as family members, rather than stay apart. It’s about a mother and daughter learning to grow and understand each other from their point of view. The story is what made me want to watch it in the first place.Īt the end of the day, the story of Brave isn’t about a girl trying to change her fate and go on some crazy adventure in order to turn her mother back from a bear. This is always what gets me – when I ask people what went wrong with Brave, they usually say the story, and I’m always so shocked by that. But, beyond the beautiful scenery, the cast of characters was also very well done with a ton of personality and fun details that really made the film come alive. She feels most at home in the outdoors honing her impressive athletic skills as an archer and swordfighter, and racing across the magnificent Highland countryside with her faithful horse, Angus. (Image credit: Pixar) And To Be Honest, The Story Of Her Growing Bond With Her Mother Is What Captured Me Passionate and fiery, Merida is a headstrong teenager of royal upbringing who is struggling to take control of her own destiny. ![]()
